MY NEW-BIRTH STORY I was born into a family of nominal Christian parents and had very little exposure to the basics of Christianity until I was about 12 years old when I started attending the Lutheran Church of Nigeria in my village. I was thrilled with the story of the Reformation during the Middle Ages as largely carried out by Martin Luther and became committed in evangelism and Church activities.
It gave me a sense of closeness to God but essentially devoid of an inner conviction of my eternal security. Without the correct knowledge, I knew that I had no definite foundation for the Christian life I’d professed as I clearly became carried away with peer influence and became passive; with no apparent understanding of who I was and my purpose for living.
However, during a visit to Calabar on the 8th of August, 2004 after attending a meeting with the Assemblies of God Church, I realized the emptiness and hopelessness of my situation without a living relationship with the Living One. I realized the pattern of life I was about to chose was worldly and away from Christ.
I then made the right decision to declare the Lordship of Jesus over my life. From then on my life took on a new leaf.
I was baptized in the Holy Ghost within the same with and started speaking in tongues profusely as I hungered and yielded myself to the Lord. I can say that from that moment I began to receive deeper insights to the things of the Spirit.
My journey with God in the glory life had begun. The Lord is Faithful.
He has shown Himself strong on my behalf with mighty manifestation of the Spirit and the Word in all of my dealings. The best of my salvation experience would come many years later in Zamfara State where I was posted for the National Youth Service Corps and was led by the Spirit of God into a Christ Embassy Church.
The teachings of my father in the Lord, Pastor Chris Oyakhilome flooded my spirit with revelations of effective Christian living and witnessing. The foundations of my faith became firmer as I came to understand the Doctrine of Righteousness: every strife and struggle to attain unto God’s righteousness became a thing of the past having been taught by this ‘man sent from God’ to my generation.
I believe that the best part of the story is yet to be told. It has been a journey from glory to glory.
Blessed be the God of our salvation. Brother George Ofem is a Coordinator of Christ Embassy State Housing, Calabar.
