My name is Ikechukwu Duru. The major thing I know concerning the circumstances surrounding my coming to Christ was the fact that my immediate family was a Christian one.
I can't really tell the particular day I gave my life to Christ, but as a growing child, I remember saying the salvation prayer severally. My mum and Dad would always tell me each time I did something wrong, "you are a child of God and a child of God doesn't do like this".
So I had this consciousness that I was a child of God even when I didn't know what it was to be born again. Secondly, one remarkable thing about my childhood was the fact that God was always leading me to himself, using people and circumstances.
For example, in my primary school I use to have a teacher who would never allow me behave like the rest of the kids in the class. She would always call me with two or three other kids to pray during break-hour.
I remember vividly her words to us. "You are spacial kids, don't behave like any other kid, you are God's children" (all these were happening in primary school.
In high school I was already burning with zeal for God that I was going from class to class, street to street preaching. I remember starting a fellowship in my street ( though I didnt have members).
In my class two, I became the Scripture Union (SU) president in my school. I had zeal and passion, yet I had no knowledge of the gospel and of the word of God.
I later left my school to a missionary school owed by the Catholic Church in another state. In the school, I preached the word with so much passion that the catholic students would leave their chapel and would come to the Pentecostal chapel just to watch me and hear me preach.
My fame went round the school that every student, the teachers and principal knew me, and they always wanted to hear me preach. For the first time in SS1 class, I was made the chapel prefect of the school.
In 2001 in my dream I saw something remarkable, something out of this world, something different from what I use to experience. It was a Christmas season, so I went to the village with my family, it was there in one afternoon I dreamt, and saw myself in a particular church, in that church I saw crowd of people gathered worshipping God with such a sold-out-spirit I have never seen before, I saw them crying lifting up their hands in prayer, it was as if the heavens were open above their head.
There was this usual peace, joy and feeling that was in the atmosphere as they were singing their unique songs. I felt it so much that I was wondering in the dream if they were in heaven, but I knew they were on earth.
All of a sudden, I woke up in my room. I thought I had gone to heaven, for some time right there in my room I was thinking about this.
Who are these people, where on earth are they, can this be real on earth? All these questions went round my head. I could search around all the churches, meetings, crusades I have ever attended, none was to be compared with the atmosphere I felt with those folks in the dream.
After that day, I kept this experience in my heart for long until it faded away. Then I didn't really know much about pastor Chris and the Christ Embassy church except the fact that I use to see pastor Chris once in a while on tele, but after a while, I got so addicted listening to him on television, listened to him almost everyday.
I remember how I would wake up then by 6am to on the television, because that was the time he would be on. One day as I was watching,I made up my mind that once I gain admission and leave home to university I would start attending his church so that I can learn more of God's word.
(I planned it that way because I knew that would be the only time my parents would most likely consider me going to another church outside the family church) To make the story short, in the year 2006 when I already gained admission into the university like I said, I walked in to christ Embassy church by myself in one Sunday morning. Brothers and sisters or whoever may be reading my story, as I entered the auditorium, the feeling was something else, even as the worship was going on I felt so much at home that I was broken in the spirit.
The hight of it was when pastor Amaechi Udeaku started unveiling the mistery of the word and, I said Wow! The greatest was, right there in the church the Holy spirit brought back to my heart that atmosphere and feeling I experienced in the dream with the crowd, and all of a sudden, it dawned on me that the people, the atmosphere, the kind of worship, and songs I saw and heard in the dream were that of my beloved nation Believers Loveworld, and the only thing I asked myself was "Iyke where have you been? Since that day it has been a glorious walk in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus, and am forever grateful to my Lord Jesus Christ who counted me worthy and chosed me, and also made me a partaker of the ministry and message he has given to my man of God Rev. Chris Oyakhilome.
